HomeNeurological Physiotherapy

What Is Neurological Physiotherapy?

Neurological Physiotherapy is the treatment of patients with a disorder affecting the brain or spinal cord such as stroke, MS, spinal cord injury and cerebral palsy.

Neurological physiotherapists are physiotherapists who specialise in the treatment of individuals with neurological conditions and attend postgraduate courses specific to neurological rehabilitation.

The neurological physiotherapists at Liverpool Neuro Physio can provide assessments and treatment at any stage of a condition.

In conditions such as stroke, access to neurological physiotherapy treatment can allow you to make continued improvements no matter how long it is since your stroke. Just because you have been discharged from NHS services does not mean that you do not have the potential to make further improvements.

In progressive conditions, such as MS, there can still be gains by having physiotherapy to improve quality of life and promote independence.

The neurological physiotherapy treatment offered by Liverpool Neuro Physio is specific to each individual, and is focussed on physical problems. Treatment is aimed towards goals agreed between you and your therapist. This can be achieved with stretches, strengthening exercises, balance exercises, mobility practice (if appropriate), postural awareness, core control, and education and advice. A printed home exercise programme can also be provided to be completed between each session.

If required, recommendations can also be made regarding walking aids and home aids and adaptations.
